                                                                      Our Oceans Now Story

On September 18, 2010 my then 12 year old daughter and I were participating in a beach clean up day for her middle school in Venice, FL. As we walked the beach we talked about how much we love the ocean and our beaches.  (That past summer we had just experienced the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.) My daughter ask how could we help in saving ocean life and help protect our beaches. I could only tell her we were doing our part by helping with the beach clean up day. She insisted that was not enough, I agreed and began to think how we could make a difference. As the clean up ended we decided to go for a swim out to a nearby sand bar. Upon standing up on the sand bar we were in waist deep water and observed a pod of dolphins swimming nearby. The next thing we knew a dolphin had come to within arms reach of us. It was amazing watching him swim around us, surfacing for air and catching a look at us. We were thrilled with the encounter and talked about it all the way home. Over the next few days I continued thinking about my daughter's question. Then one day driving home from work I heard on the radio about some non profit organizations that had helped in the oil spill, saving sea life and researching the effects on the ocean. They wanted to continue their efforts but were having trouble with funding. It was then I knew how we could help. I could produce and sell ocean related products and donate a portion of the profits to those great organizations.

When I arrived home that night I told my wife and kids what I wanted to do. I told them I had a great name for our company. They all thought it was a great idea. My daughter was so happy that now we could do more to help and that is how Oceans Now was born.
